Our Services and Approaches

Our practitioners integrate a blend of approaches, including trauma-informed care, person-centred counselling, Gestalt Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). We also incorporate body-oriented strategies such as Somatic Experiencing to deepen the connection between physical sensations and emotional well-being.

We apply the guidance of the Equine Assisted Therapy Australia (EATA) model, emphasising ethical and effective practices in equine-assisted therapy. Additionally, we embrace Ecotherapy principles and mindfulness practices, enabling clients to engage with the transformative power of nature.

The presence of horses enriches this process, as their intuitive and authentic responses foster emotional awareness and connection. This holistic approach is designed to meet the unique needs of each individual, fostering self-growth, awareness, and transformation in a supportive, natural environment.

Our therapeutic services support children, adolescents, and adults facing mental health challenges, focusing on cultivating safe relationships, attunement, emotional regulation, and psychoeducation. Through supported experiential learning with horses, we help you recognise and address emotional blocks, connect with your body’s cues, and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. The unique interaction with horses provides immediate feedback, creating opportunities for profound insights and lasting change. Our goal is to support your journey towards self-discovery, personal growth, and improved well-being.

A Journey with Horses

“In the presence of a horse, we find reflections of our emotions, teachers of patience, and guides to inner peace. Through their silent wisdom, they help us learn, grow, and connect with ourselves and our world.”

Equine-Assisted Mental Health Therapy

Equine therapy provides a truly unique experience, enabling a profound connection not only with horses but also with oneself.

Equine-Assisted Mental Health Therapy is a unique form of experiential learning therapy that offers a range of activities tailored to meet your therapeutic goals, personal desires, or to simply satisfy your curiosity. In creating an optimal therapeutic environment, these sessions take place outdoors, surrounded by the calming presence of nature and with the inclusion of horses.

Our carefully designed experiential learning activities aim to address various psychological challenges and issues. These may include developing safe and healthy relationships, enhancing both verbal and non-verbal communication skills, fostering attunement, building self-esteem and self-confidence, improving emotional regulation and knowledge, providing psychoeducation, developing boundary-setting competencies, and ultimately offering a unique and powerful approach to personal growth and healing.

 Nature-Based Counselling

At Brumby Equine-Assisted Counselling, we acknowledge that partnering with horses may not be the ideal choice for everyone seeking therapeutic treatment.

We understand that not all individuals may wish to engage with horses or find it suitable for their needs and preferences. Therefore, we offer the option of room-based and natured based therapy to specifically tailor your treatment and align it with your individual goals.

Equine-Assisted Learning

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is our non-therapy skills-based service that aims to teach valuable life skills, including social skills, communication skills, emotional regulation and leadership skills through interactions with horses.

This form of learning promotes personal growth and increased self-awareness by engaging individuals in both mounted and non-mounted activities with horses.

Our Equine Assisted Learning program is divided into four stages, with each stage comprising a total of six sessions. However, there is no strict time frame for completing all the activities within each stage.

Our focus is on creating a safe and supportive environment that allows both humans and our equines to progress at a pace that feels comfortable for everyone involved. We prioritise the well-being and comfort of all participants, without placing unnecessary pressure on completing goal-oriented tasks.

Workshops

Our workshops aims to introduce you to the captivating world of equine therapy, offering an opportunity to embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, guided by the remarkable bond between humans and horses.

We will engage in a variety of activities, some involving direct interaction with the horses, and others exploring different aspects of personal growth and self-awareness.

Our experienced facilitator will be there to guide you every step of the way, prioritising your safety and comfort. Each activity has been carefully curated to offer profound insights and therapeutic benefits, ensuring a transformative experience for all participants.
